Manitoba Justice has arrested and detained Doron Waldman, who just spent 20 months in a U.S. prison for child-sex-tourism related crimes.

Waldman is currently in custody at the remand centre after being deported from the U.S. late Wednesday or Thursday.

My sources tell me they’ve been working on arrangements to bring him back to Winnipeg for trial for a while now.

He’s facing three charges, for allegedly possessing and accessing child pornography between Oct. 3 2007 and Nov. 20, 2007 and  attempting to procure a person under the age of 18 for sexual purposes between Aug. 10 ’07 and Nov. 19 ’07.

It’s not news that he was due to face charges here once his sentence expired down south.

It is news that he’s back.

You can read more about Waldman’s U.S. experience here, here and here.

His next court date is Aug. 20.

Veteran defence lawyer Greg Brodsky’s firm has been retained to represent him.

  1. Update:

Doron Waldman pleaded guilty to one count of possession of child porn in Winnipeg on Friday August 20th and was sentenced to time served (23 days – double credit given or 46 days equivalent).

Lawyer argued the material found in Waldman’s possession had been presented at his US trial and considered there when sentence was imposed so it would constitute double jeopardy to sentence him again for the same material.

He is free as of today (August 20th) after spending 37 months in custody in the US and 23 days at the Winnipeg Remand Center. Hopefully he can control his unlawful desires.
