Just wanted to point out that the Winnipeg Police Service’s public information office has been closed two [hot summer city] weekends in a row.

Makes me think the guy who once wanted to be chief has a point with his view that in an election year, the WPS brass may be choosing to keep things low-key.

Or, maybe it’s an arm of the service that is completely understaffed, scared to death of lawsuits and completely besieged by media requests for comment on traffic accidents.

I waver on which one it is. It’s probably a bit of both.

UPDATE: I discovered the problem is staffing. Nobody to backfill the two officers dedicated to the unit. I’m also told the weekend shutdowns will continue throughout the summer.

  1. Staffing is a matter or priorities. You staff those things you see as being important.
